The penny dropped !!! 은 The penny has dropped.로 '자동판매기에 동전이 들어갔다'의 뜻에서 나온 말로 '의미가 통했다, 알아듣겠다'라는 영국 구어입니다.

A: It was a bit embarrassing at first, because she obviously knew me, but I wasn't sure who she was.

B: You mean the woman in the green dress ?

A: Yes. The man standing next to her is her husband.

B: So did you work out who she was in the end ?

A: Yes, but it wasn't until she mentioned Jean Smith that the penny dropped.

B: What did Jean have to do with it ?

A: Well, Jean and I went to flower arranging classes last year and I suddenly remembered that that woman - her name's Gloria - was in our class.

A: 그녀는 나를 확실히 아는데 나는 그녀가 누군지 몰라서 처음에 약간 난처했어.

B: 녹색 옷을 입고 있는 여자 말이니?

A: 그녀 옆에 서 있는 남자가 남편이야.

B: 그래서 결국 그녀가 누군지 알아냈니?

A: 그녀가 Jean Smith를 들먹일 때서야 알아챘지 뭐야.

B: Jean이 무슨 관계가 있니?

A: Jean과 내가 작년에 꽃꽂이반을 함께 들었거든. 그 때 갑자기 우리 반에 있던 Gloria가 생각난 거야.
